The name of the D series is derived from its shape, which is that of a chisel. Just like the conical soldering iron tips, these are used for general soldering work. The surface area is larger than conical tips - more heat can be transferred from the tip to the electrical component. They are particularly useful when soldering thick wires and connectors.
